About

Who is this guy, anyway?

Simon with Video Camera at Mardi Gras 2006

Hello. My name is Simon Dorfman. I record video interviews of fellow-New Orleanians and distribute them via PeopleOfNewOrleans.com.

Why?

Because I want to share the stories of the people of this city, one person at a time. But before I can share them, I have to learn them. This project is an excuse to go out and meet my neighbors and get to know this city better. I’ve lived in New Orleans since the Summer of 2000. There are whole neighborhoods I haven’t explored yet. This project is about exploring.

What else?

It’s also about making short videos and sharing them quickly. The internet is good for that. I’m hoping all you internet folks will give me a bunch of positive feedback, which will inspire me to get back to work on some of my larger art projects that have lost momentum. Awe heck, I’d even settle for a bunch of criticism as long as it’s interesting. Wha’ d’ya say? Can y’all leave some comment love? You can do it, just click on the Comments link by each video.

Where should I start?

Watch the first video where I interview myself about what inspired PeopleOfNewOrleans.com.
