Summary: DJ talks about his Gentilly neighborhood. Gives a tour of the lower level of his house which he’s rebuilding. Talks about getting all his family together and evacuating.
Notes: I thought I had a good sense of ten minutes without using a stopwatch, but I guess I got caught up in this one. DJ is a great talker.

…on May 23rd, 2006, at 9:17 amVery good interview. I do like the moving, action oriented interviews better than the talking heads style. DJ shows the resourcefulness and drive that will help rebuild the city from the grassroots up. And, just as important, restore its neighborhoods. His optimism and connection to his extended family is so typical of New Orleanians. I believe those traits, exhibited by folks like DJ, are one of the main reasons New Orleans has remained a neighborhood-based community while many American cities have come mere commerce hubs for homogenized suburbs.
…on May 23rd, 2006, at 10:44 amGreat one. Losing the tripod and being able to reference what was being talked about was a great addition. Glad you shifted gears at the end and got some time to slow it down and hear about the evacuation and aftermath. A sweet ending to an excellent video.
